2010 Umoja Community Scholarship Winner
Sharlett Rose, Psychology major and student of the Umoja Community at Napa Valley College, is the 2010 winner of the Umoja Community scholarship to attend a Black College tour this spring. The tour will travel to nine colleges and universities in the South and on the East Coast. The scholarship covers a major portion of the trip and with donations from Tia Madison, her college Umoja Coordinator, her church members, family and friends, the entire cost was covered. “I am overwhelmed with humbleness and gratitude for the scholarship and everyone who has supported me. I never believed that I could go to college, graduate and seek more good for myself and look to help others” stated Sharlett. Sharlett is considering Spelman College as her transfer institution but is keeping all of her options open.
