Gerard Robinson, newly appointed Education Secretary for the State of Virginia, has a strong connection to the Umoja Community. Gerard started his post secondary education at El Camino College in Torrance, California. His connection came about when the founders of Project Success (an Umoja Community affiliate) were developing the program over 23 years. It was just before Gerard transferred to Howard University when he was called upon to speak to the first group of potential Project Success students. Following his motivational talk on “How to Be a Successful College student”, Gerard took the students on a campus tour. He also returned a few years later to speak at a Project Success Awards Dinner.
Gerard has obtained an Associate of Arts from El Camino College, a Bachelor of Arts from Howard University, a Master of Education from Harvard University and is currently completing a Ph.D at the University of Virginia.
