FIRST UMOJA COMMUNITY SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENT GRADUATES FROM HOWARD UNIVERSITY
SUMMA CUM LAUDE

Trina Peterson a former student of the Umoja Community Program at El Camino College (Project Success) obtained her BA degree in Communications from Howard University in May 2011.  Trina was the first recipient of the Umoja Community scholarship that was awarded in 2008.  The scholarship was donated that year by Umoja Executive Committee member, E. Elaine Moore, in memory of her mother who was a strong advocate for higher education.

As a student at Howard University, Trina often returned to El Camino College, in Torrance, California during her school breaks to motivate and encourage other Umoja students to persevere.

Trina graduated from Howard University Summa Cum Laude which is an honor bestowed upon a student with a 3.92 grade point average.   She has returned to the Los Angeles area and plans to work in the entertainment industry.

Congratulations Trina!
