College Guidance

One of the core requirements for Umoja Community programs is a  two semester College Guidance sequence for first year students.  These College Guidance classes may cover such topics as College Survival Skills, Career Planning, the Transfer Process , Library Skills or College Study Strategies.  The Umoja classes are deliberately structured to be culturally relevant and responsive to the needs of the students.   Additional classes that some Umoja programs offer include one or more of the following : Basic Skills Math, Basic Skills English, Speech and Afrocentric classes such as African History, African Art, African American History, and  African American Psychology.
