Announcing the Umoja Community Scholarship!
UMOJA SCHOLARSHIP
Applications for the Umoja Community Cloteal C. Thomas Memorial scholarship are now available. Cloteal C. Thomas, a Mississippi native was the mother of E. Elaine Moore, an Umoja Steering Committee member. Mrs. Thomas was a stronger supporter and advocate for higher education until her passing in January 2008.
SCHOLARSHIP CRITERIA
To qualify for this scholarship, you must be a student now participating in a recognized Umoja-affiliated program at a California Community College with the intention of transferring to a Historically Black College or University in the fall of 2008. One scholarship of $1,000.00 will be awarded to a deserving student after his/her registration is verified. Proof of registration is required.
Applicants must provide all of the following:
- A completed application.
- A letter of recommendation from the Umoja coordinator or designee on your campus.
- An acceptance letter to a Historically Black College or University.
- A 300 word essay indicating the Umoja activities that you have participated in this past academic year and what you learned from your experience.
- An unofficial transcript verifying a minimum 2.5 grade point average from all colleges attended.
