Umoja Scholarship

SCHOLARSHIP HISTORY

The Umoja Community Scholarship was developed in 2008 for students who are members of Umoja affiliated programs.  The first scholarship awarded was named after Cloteal C. Thomas, a strong advocate for higher education and the mother of a board member.  The recipient selected was Trina Peterson, a 3.7 GPA graduate of El Camino College who transferred to Howard University.  The second scholarship was awarded in 2010 to Sharlett Rose, a student at Napa Valley College.  The scholarship will be used for Sharlett to participate on a Black College Tour to nine colleges in the south and on the east coast.

Future scholarships will be awarded for academic accomplishments, for participation of a Black College Tour or for a Study Abroad trip to West Africa.
