Deadline to Register:
Thursday, July 20, 2023 - 12:30pm

The Umoja Student Leadership Summitt (SLS) is a space to convene, train, and organize Umoja students to go forward and assume their roles as leaders in their local programs and communities. Empowered by Maya Angelou's quote, “When you learn, teach. When you get, give.",” this year's SLS will make our ancestor's words tangible. Centered around student Leadership through an African-Centered Lens. Students will learn about African-Centered student leadership, discuss strategies for advocacy, address outreach/in-reach efforts from a peer perspective, and engage in conversation on how to support students in the new normal of higher education. The SLS empowers student leaders to further develop personally and academically.

The event features student-centered presentations and engages students in skill development, resulting in campus and community impact. Umoja scholars will hear from remarkable speakers, engage in multiple INDABAS (deep conversations) and learn how to be change agents on their campuses. Student leaders that attend the SLS should be current students that serve in leadership on your campus in some capacity and are willing to challenge themselves in an academic environment to promote advanced skillsets in leadership and beyond. As the Umoja practitioner, you will be involved in discussions, guide your students and engage throughout the whole experience. Practitioners are required to lodge on campus to chaperone their scholars.

Prior to the event Umoja Community Education Foundation will host an informational meeting for all practitioners that plan to attend this event. The date and time for this session will be announced once registration ends.

Please note that this event is open for registration until we reach capacity. The registration deadline does not guarantee availability. Once we reach capacity we will open a waitlist for interested participants. The waitlist is not a guarantee but will be utilized to add participants if others remove themselves from attending the SLS. Again a maximum of 1 practitioner and 3 students are allowed to be registered to attend.
