Board of Directors
Rahma Mahamoud is a nontraditional college student majoring in Political Science at Ohlone College and an engaged member of the Umoja Community. Raised between cultures and shaped by early schooling in the Middle East, Rahma brings a global perspective to her academic and leadership work. As a multilingual communicator who speaks three languages, she uses language as a tool for connection, advocacy, and expanding access for diverse communities. She has built a diverse professional background as a medical interpreter, logistics coordinator, and former operations manager, experiences that strengthened her commitment to equity, communication, and community-centered problem-solving.
Rahma is a Humanities Mellon Scholar at Foothill College and a research assistant with the Alcohol Research Group, where she contributed to California youth advocacy and public health projects. Her academic interests span environmental policy, health equity, and what influences access to opportunity.
Rahma plans to transfer to a University of California campus fall 2026, pursue advanced degrees, and ultimately establish a nonprofit supporting underrepresented and disadvantaged students. She is driven by a deep belief in education as a pathway to liberation, empowerment, and systemic change.
